Uses of Past Simple Tense
USE 1: Past Facts, and generalizations.
We use this tense for the facts or generalizations which are no longer true. e.g
Barak Obama ruled America.
USE 2: Repeated Actions in Past such as habbits.
We use this tense for the repeated actions which stopped now. we use often, usually, always, sometimes, when i was in 10th class/child/live in London to express the degree of repetition of an action. e.g
I played cricket usually.
USE 3: A completed action in past, time is specified either mentioned or not.
This tense is used for an action which stated in the past and also completed in the past at a specific time wither mentioned or not.
I saw a lion yestereday.
USE 4: A series of completed actions in past.
This tense is used for series of actions that occured in a sequence.
I reached in office by 8'O clock, read newspaper, checked and signed files, and issued new orders.
USE 5:Duration in past.
This tense is also used for duration in past described with 'for' such as for two years, two hours etc.
I studied for two hours.
