Uses of Present Simple tense

USE 1: Repeated action e.g hobbies, habits, daily events.
e.g. I play football. She goes to school.

USE 2: Universal truth, scientific facts, generalization.
e.g. Cat likes milk. Birds fly. snakes creep.

USE 3: Schedualed events in near future by officials or organizations.
e.g. The train leaves at 6 pm tonight. Prime minister of Pakistan meets Prime minister of India tomorrow.

USE 4: NOW - The action is happening or not happening now. Continuous verb/Action verb CANNOT be used in this use of simple tense. Only STATIVE VERB is used.
e.g. I need help now. I am here now.
 Structure of Present Simple tense


Singular Subject: HE, SHE, IT, Ahmed(Any name)

NOTE We add s/es with helping verb or first forms of verb with singular subject. If helping verb do is used with first form of verb, s/es will be added with helping verb. Otherwise s/es will be added with first forms of verb.


Use of s: Normally s is added with first forms of verb, such as, Boys, Girls, Books, cups etc.


Use of es: When words are ending in ch, s, sh, x, z; Add es with first forms of verb. e.g. match to matches, glass to glasses. If ch in the end of the word sounds like k, add only s. e.g. Stomach to Stomachs


Use of ies: When a word ends with vowal + Y, just add s, e.g. journey to journeys, key to keys. If a word ends with consonant + Y, remove y and add ies. e.g. Baby to babies, body to bodies

 

 

Nature of Sentence Structure of tense with example.

Positive

Subject + First Form of Verb(s/es) + Object.
He/She/It/Ahmed plays football.

Negative

Subject + Does not+ First Form of Verb + Object.
He/She/It/Ahmed does not play football.

Interogative

Does + Subject + First Form of Verb + Object.
Does He/She/It/Ahmed play football?

Interogative negative

Does + Subject + not + First Form of Verb + Object?
Does He/She/It/Ahmed not play football?

 


Plural Subject: We, They, AND especial case of Singular subject, I, You

 

Note: We do not add s/es/ies with any verb.
